Project Serenity
Storyboard
At the
beginning of the 22nd century Science on Earth has progressed so far
that human beings are no longer plagued by death. The average life cycle of the
average person is measured in centuries not years or decades. During the 43rd
Century the world is in a state of decay due to the dwindling supplies of
natural resources, animals are virtually non-existing. The UN has decided to
begin work on Project Baby, which is a way to find a drug that stops people
from having children. In a few short years it is perfected, and a world-wide ban
is placed on having children unless you can afford the outrageous price to buy
back your fertility, and even then you were only allowed one child. 2 Centuries
later we found a self-sustaining energy source on Mercury, and decide to use it
to colonize the planets in our solar system. In the 50th century we
have eliminated all resources in our solar system, and we have begun looking
for larger planets in which we could possibly relocate. In an attempt to
colonize other planets in the universe, we sent out thousands of Bio-Vessels.
These giant ships could start life a new with DNA from past and present
creatures of Earth, yet many of them ventured too far for us to ever hear back
from them. One ship in particular reached a part of the universe that was unknown
to us. This was the Augmented Planet Rendering Interstellar Atmosphere, or
APRIA. It was never supposed to have made it this far, yet since it was one of
the most funded projects it managed to reach the literal edge of the universe. There
was no stars or galaxies or anything, just nothingness, a few long years later
they came across a small galaxy that housed a single solar system. In an
attempt to get closer to view the planets themselves, something undetected
knocked a group of engines off of the ship, and set them on a crash course for
Umbra. Fortunately unfortunate for those that lived among the APRIA, when the
engines went out Oxygen could no longer be produced upon the ship, which also
resulted in many small explosions all over the ship. Everyone frantically raced
to the escape pods, many of them shot off in random directions, and many of
them were unable to be used, it only took minuets for the entire ship to be
reduced to a floating heap of garbage. . .
In saving his own life Vincent hijacks a storage ship,
which contained various DNA and a simple AI. Vincent manages to get off of the APRIA,
yet as he is leaving an explosion happens just affront the storage ship, since
the ship was made only for transport it cannot withstand the blast and is
hurled towards Umbra. The Umbrans, in an effort to make sure Umbra is safe,
find Vincent aboard the storage ship and bear witness to strange creatures
roaming about the lands. They give him white krysta to revive him, making his
body immune to the harsh environment, also giving him lasting life. Initially
they tried to bring him into the sea, yet his anatomy differed from theirs, he
only had lungs instead of both lungs and gills. Instead they left him among a
beach that led down to the great city of the Umbrans. After a few days, Vincent
finally awakens, and since they have no method of returning him to whence he
came, they attempted to teach him their ways, yet Vincent felt all of this was
irrelevant to him considering he himself could not live beneath the sea. Instead
he attempts to teach technology to the Umbrans so he can find a way off of the
planet. Not all of the Umbrans cared to be taught technology yet a few of their
masses followed him. In the following few decades he managed to bring these new
Umbrans, which now lived upon the surface of Umbra, to a great technological
age that fused both Krysta and Technology.
SIDE NOTE: When the Umbrans were united they
managed to salvage and restore the almost complete damaged Bio-Vessel. After
the factions split one faction decided that all this conflict was far too much
for them, and they decided to take the now completely restored and completely
functional Bio-vessel and live far above the surface of the planet.
Years later he fell in love with the Umbran Priestess that
nursed him back to health. He then decides that living on this planet is what
he wants, for he cannot stand to be without her, yet since the AI was built to
help scientists develop civilization on planets good enough to sustain life,
she (the AI) could not just discard their plans of getting back to Earth. Vincent
then decides that things would be best left to the AI, unknown to Vincent she
intends not only to create a
technologically perfect world as her programming entails but also to correct
the mistakes that Humanity made. The AI decides that the use of krysta solely
belongs to her and stops giving the new Umbrans krysta, and instead using it
for experimental purposes. The majority of the new Umbrans do not like this
idea due to the fact that they all needed it in order to survive the harsh
environment. Because of the limited amount of different krystas they began to
plunge into anarchy. In this anarchy the Umbrans divided themselves and the
most technologically advanced had begun to create their own social and
technological economy. The A.I. knew that with each strand of krysta brought
different abilities to the Umbran whose body it was in, and since all the
factions were at war she (The A.I.) decided that a technologically efficient
way to quell the hordes would be to capture subjects of each faction that tried
to tamper with their work and experiment on them or kill them depending on
whether or not they could be “useful”, unfortunately it worked.
SIDE NOTE: The Anglers are the only ones that
can use White Krysta Medicinally, the only way any other Faction can use it is
from what the planet dispenses
For years Vincent stood by with the Peacekeepers as they
world fell to anarchy and the A.I. established her dominance. After a few years
of experimenting on the captured subjects the A.I. found a way to utilize them
as her own army, but only post-mortem and not for long. This changed the A.I.
main objective, she had now begun to attempt to create the perfect Umbran, yet this
would be inefficient for she would need the creatures to have lasting life. The
A.I. felt that she needed to capture one of the Anglers (as they had become to
be known as) in order to use White Krysta to give immortal life to her hybrids,
as they had done to Vincent. At this time Vincent and his family were on Calbri
(The largest continent on Umbra) with the Peacekeepers.
SIDE NOTE: The Peacekeepers were once a 100
Angler (The Original Umbrans that lived in the depths of the “Blue Krysta”
Oceans) Council that was told to live amongst the land only to watch over the
young minds of the New Above Ground Umbrans. They lived silently and kept to
the old ways and lived in the only spot on Umbra that had a vast flowing source
of Green Krysta which grew the plants on the continent. This was the largest
but hard to get to piece of land on the entire surface. In the time period of
the events of Project Serenity, only The Eruditus know of the Peacekeepers and
only because they trade food with them in order to keep the growing metropolis
alive. No one else realizes that they are still being watched simply due to the
fact that the Peacekeepers seem to have always been there in silence.
With this knowledge she had decided that she was not only
going to extract the knowledge she needed but if need be she would take Vincent
too. The A.I. sent out a scout team of Eruditus to “persuade” Vincent’s Wife to
join them. After her decline she was forced to come, this obviously angered
Vincent. In his fit of rage he killed one of the Eruditus yet the four others
succeeded in taking them all, even Vincent’s daughter for they could not leave
an orphaned child. They were brought directly to the single metropolis that
stood in this post-apocalyptic world. The A.I. welcomed them by means of
separating them all from one another. She then began questioning Vincent’s
wife, which shortly led to torture, yet before her death she had told the A.I.
of a type of krysta that was kept in the heavens and only given to those who
needed power in a critical time of need. In the AI’s merciful nature instead of
leaving Vincent’s wife dead she decided to use her and her daughter for a very
special experiment. As for Vincent, the AI extracted every bit of krysta from his
body resulting in his death. With the death of Vincent the AI was free to reign
as she saw fit.
Centuries passed and Umbra, who was once cloaked in beauty,
was now bare and rotting, the only lush natural environment was Calbri.
This was the new way of Umbra.
